Peshawar inter-club weightlifting championship to begin on April 14

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar District Inter-Club Weightlifting Championship is scheduled to start on April 14 at the Gym Hall of the Peshawar Sports Complex, with competitions set to continue for three days.

The event is being organised under the aegis of the Regional Sports Office Peshawar and will bring together six clubs from across Peshawar. According to the details shared for the championship, contests will be held in six weight divisions: 55kg, 65kg, 73kg, 81kg, 89kg and over 89kg.

Young weightlifters are expected to take part in the competition and demonstrate their abilities during the event. The championship is part of ongoing efforts to promote sporting activity at the grassroots level in the district.

Event approved by district administration

Regional Sports Officer Kashif Farhan said the championship is being held with the approval of the Peshawar district administration and in line with directives issued by the Director General Sports.

He said that, under the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government’s sports policy, inter-club competitions at the grassroots level are being organised regularly to encourage sports participation, and described the weightlifting championship as an important part of that process.

He stated that in line with the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government’s sports policy, the organization of inter-club competitions at the grassroots level is continuing on a regular basis to promote sports, and the weightlifting championship is an important link in this chain.

Arrangements completed with association’s support

Farhan said all required arrangements for the smooth conduct of the championship have been completed in coordination with the District Weightlifting Association. He added that the aim is to ensure the best possible facilities for athletes participating in the event.

The championship is also being presented as an opportunity to engage young people in healthy and constructive activities. According to the information provided, competitions of this kind also help identify and bring forward local sporting talent at the grassroots level.

The three-day event is expected to provide a platform for emerging lifters from Peshawar’s clubs to compete across multiple categories while contributing to broader efforts to strengthen sports development in the district.
