ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Tuesday issued a heatwave alert for several districts in Sindh and Punjab, warning that very high temperatures are expected from April 11.
According to the authority, a number of districts in Sindh are likely to be affected by the expected rise in temperatures. These include Dadu, Jacobabad, Larkana and nearby areas.
The NDMA said Jamshoro, Qambar Shahdadkot, Ghotki, Khairpur, Sanghar, Umerkot and Kashmore could also face the impact of the heatwave. Jhal Magsi, Usta Muhammad and Dera Murad Jamali are also among the areas at risk.
In its alert, the NDMA warned that temperatures during the night may remain 3 to 5 degrees Celsius above normal levels. Daytime temperatures could climb 5 to 7 degrees Celsius higher than usual in the affected regions.
The warning was issued as authorities flagged the possibility of severe heat conditions in the coming days. The alert specifically identified April 11 as the starting point for the expected spell of unusually high temperatures.
The NDMA’s advisory covered districts in Sindh and Punjab, while the list of areas named in the alert included multiple locations in Sindh as well as adjoining areas expected to face similar conditions.
The districts and areas mentioned by the NDMA include Dadu, Jacobabad, Larkana, Jamshoro, Qambar Shahdadkot, Ghotki, Khairpur, Sanghar, Umerkot, Kashmore, Jhal Magsi, Usta Muhammad and Dera Murad Jamali.
The authority said the expected increase in temperatures could make conditions particularly intense across these locations, with both daytime and nighttime temperatures forecast to remain above seasonal averages.
The NDMA alert underlined that the anticipated heat spell may bring nighttime temperatures 3 to 5 degrees above normal, while daytime highs may stay 5 to 7 degrees above normal in the identified districts and surrounding areas.
