Supreme Court, Türkiye’s Constitutional Court to sign MoU on judicial cooperation

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan and the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Türkiye are set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on judicial cooperation on Monday at the Supreme Court building in Islamabad, according to a statement issued by the apex court on Sunday.

The signing ceremony will take place during a visit by a high-level delegation from Türkiye’s Constitutional Court, led by its president Kadir Özkaya. The delegation is visiting Pakistan from April 6 to April 9 and also includes judges and senior officials.

The Supreme Court said the proposed agreement is expected to create a structured and forward-looking mechanism for cooperation between the two institutions. The planned collaboration will focus on judicial exchange, capacity building and the sharing of best practices in adjudication.

According to the statement, the initiative reflects the shared commitment of Pakistan and Türkiye to strengthening constitutional governance, upholding the rule of law and reinforcing judicial independence. It is also aimed at promoting closer institutional ties between the superior courts of the two countries.

A key element of the proposed cooperation, the statement said, is the professional development of the judiciary, particularly at the district level. This is expected to be pursued through joint training programmes, academic exchanges and exposure to comparative judicial practices.

The Supreme Court further said the collaboration is also expected to help support the integration of modern technologies into judicial processes. The stated objective is to improve efficiency, transparency and access to justice.

The visit by the Turkish delegation and the planned signing of the MoU come as both sides seek to deepen institutional engagement in the judicial sphere through formal cooperation and exchange.

The statement did not provide further details about the text of the agreement, but outlined its broad areas of focus, including judicial learning, institutional coordination and the adoption of practices intended to strengthen court performance.
