Gwadar port activity rises as cargo volumes and infrastructure improve
Gwadar Port has recorded fresh activity with the arrival of MV Riva Glory carrying 14,629 metric tonnes of cargo. Officials say improving infrastructure and logistics are strengthening the port’s regional trade role.

GWADAR: Gwadar is seeing increased maritime activity as cargo volumes rise and infrastructure improvements strengthen its role in regional trade, according to officials and port authorities.
The latest development came with the berthing of cargo vessel MV Riva Glory at Gwadar Port, carrying 14,629 metric tonnes of goods. Officials described the arrival as another practical step in efforts to establish the port as an important link in regional trade networks.
Gwadar Port Authority Chairman Noorul Haq Baloch said the vessel’s arrival showed increasing trust among international shipping companies in the port. He said, This arrival reflects the growing confidence of international shipping lines in Gwadar Port, adding that the facility is rapidly advancing in global trade due to its modern infrastructure and efficient logistics systems.
Port authorities began unloading soon after the vessel docked and said the work was proceeding according to schedule. A port official said, All operations are being carried out in a highly professional manner without any disruption, underscoring the port’s operational preparedness.
The shipment included various goods intended for regional markets. Officials and observers linked the broader increase in activity at Gwadar to changing conditions in global shipping and wider geopolitical developments.
Tensions in the Persian Gulf and congestion on established shipping routes in recent months have led international freight operators to consider alternative options, with Gwadar increasingly seen as a safer and strategically placed route. An industry observer said, Gwadar's geographical location, combined with its deep-sea capacity and modern infrastructure, makes it an ideal safe harbour in uncertain times, while pointing to its closeness to major trade routes connecting South Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East.
Baloch said the port’s significance now extends beyond Pakistan alone. He said, Gwadar is steadily emerging as a reliable and efficient trade hub not only for Pakistan but for the wider region.
He also urged domestic investors to take advantage of opportunities in the Gwadar Free Zone, saying incentives and facilities are being offered to encourage industrial development, boost the local economy and generate employment.
Recent figures from port authorities, show an increase in cargo handling, trans-shipment and overall trade flows in recent months. These trends were attributed largely to continuing development work under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
Stronger security arrangements, modern cargo-handling machinery and quicker logistics systems have helped reduce vessel turnaround times, improving Gwadar’s competitiveness for international shipping lines.
Local business circles have welcomed the developments and expressed hope that continued port activity will lower transportation costs and open new trade routes. A trade representative said, This will significantly enhance connectivity between Pakistan, Central Asia and Gulf markets.
Port officials expect larger vessels to arrive in the future and said work is already under way to expand Gwadar’s operational capacity to meet growing demand. The berthing of MV Riva Glory is being seen by officials as a sign of the port’s expanding role, improving operational capability and increasing standing in international maritime trade.
