Man shot dead during mugging bid in Shah Faisal Colony

KARACHI: Street crime continued in the city as a man was killed during a mugging attempt in Shah Faisal Colony, according to police and details cited in the report.

The incident occurred in Green Town, where armed robbers tried to snatch a motorcycle. During the attempt, they opened fire on a citizen after he put up resistance, killing him at the scene.

Police, assisted by local residents, arrested one of the suspects after the shooting. Before he was taken into custody, the detained robber was beaten and injured by an angry crowd.

The victim’s body was moved to Jinnah Hospital, where he was identified as 30-year-old Fahad. He had suffered a fatal bullet wound to the abdomen.

Police said a weapon was recovered from the arrested suspect, while his accomplice managed to escape. A search operation is under way to trace and arrest the fleeing suspect.

The injured suspect was also shifted to Jinnah Hospital for treatment.

The latest killing comes amid continuing concern over street crime in Karachi. Despite police claims that crime has declined, incidents on the ground indicate otherwise.

With this case, the number of people killed in robbery-related incidents in the city this year has reached 20, while dozens of others have also been wounded in similar episodes.
