Pakistan Idol cancellation sparks backlash after official statement
The cancellation of Pakistan Idol has left fans outraged after the show ended without a finale. Viewers express frustration over the official explanation amid government austerity measures.

Pakistan Idol appears to have ended without a finale, disappointing viewers who had followed the music competition since its launch. The show had drawn attention for its judging panel, which included Fawad Khan, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Zeb Bangash and Bilal Maqsood, and had been seen as a platform for new singing talent.
The programme had paused during Ramadan, with many expecting it to return after Eid. However, the team has now announced that the show will not resume for now, saying that although the break began during Ramadan, current government austerity measures and fuel shortages made a restart inappropriate.
The announcement has triggered a strong reaction online, with many viewers questioning the explanation and criticising the sudden end to the show. Several social media users said the decision did not make sense and argued that the audience deserved a proper conclusion.
One user wrote, “Tell the truth that producers ate all the money.” Another said, “Pay everyone their due share and the show will resume.” A third commented, “The pubic is happy and the world goes on. This is not the right excuse.”
The response reflects growing frustration among fans, many of whom were expecting the competition to return after its Ramadan break. Instead, the show’s abrupt halt and the official explanation have become the centre of debate online.
