Renowned Pakistani singer and music icon Sajjad Ali has revealed that contestants on Pakistan Idol are not allowed to perform his songs on the show — and the reason lies in a copyright disagreement.
Speaking at a recent press conference, Sajjad Ali said that although Pakistan Idol approached him for the rights to his songs, the deal could not be finalized due to financial disagreements. As a result, contestants have been barred from performing any of his hit tracks during the competition.
My songs are of the level that if a contestant sings them, they could easily win the show or earn great praise,” Sajjad Ali remarked confidently. “But since the show doesn’t have the proper rights, they cannot be used.”
Sajjad Ali, known for timeless hits such as Har Zulm, Cinderella, and Tera Naam Liya, emphasized the importance of respecting artists’ intellectual property and fair compensation for creative work.
Fans have expressed mixed reactions online — some supporting the singer’s stance on copyright protection, while others regret that contestants will miss the chance to showcase their talent through his iconic compositions.
Despite the disagreement, Sajjad Ali remains optimistic about promoting originality and fair artistic collaboration in Pakistan’s music industry.
