Girl's body recovered from canal

FAISALABAD: The body of a 23-year-old woman, found tied with ropes, was recovered from a canal in Chak 535 GB on Monday.

Local residents noticed the body floating in the water and alerted police, who reached the spot, took it into custody, and shifted it to a nearby hospital for examination.

Police said the woman had allegedly been subjected to torture before being strangled, after which her body was bound with ropes and dumped in the canal by unidentified suspects.

The deceased, about five feet tall, was dressed in a slightly torn blue cotton floral shalwar kameez. Authorities have started making announcements in nearby mosques to trace her family, while efforts are under way to identify and arrest those responsible.

A case has been registered under Sections 302 and 201 of the Pakistan Penal Code at Dijikot Police Station on the complaint of Muhammad Sajjad Ahmed.

In a separate incident reported on the third day of Eid, a domestic dispute turned fatal in Subhanallah Chowk, Gulam Muhammadabad.
