Child molestation bid foiled as suspect apprehended

LAHORE: A bid to molest a child was foiled by authorities, leading to the apprehension of a suspect when Sherakot police arrested a man accused of attempting to sexually assault a nine-year-old boy, following an emergency call made by the victim's family.

Authorities acted swiftly to prevent the molestation attempt and secured the arrest of the accused individual. Law enforcement agencies have registered a case against the suspect under the relevant sections of the law pertaining to crimes against children.

The police said the minor, a resident of the Talat Park area, had gone to play at the home of a neighbour, Habib. The suspect allegedly took the child into a room and attempted inappropriate acts.

Officials added that the child raised alarm, forcing the suspect to flee. He reportedly escaped to his in-laws' house in Bakar Mandi to evade capture. However, the child told his father who called 15.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the alarming frequency of child abuse cases across Pakistan. Child protection advocates have long called for stricter enforcement of laws designed to safeguard minors from sexual predators.

Pakistan has witnessed a troubling number of cases involving the abuse and exploitation of children. Various civil society organisations and child rights groups have repeatedly urged authorities to take more decisive action to protect vulnerable minors from such crimes.

The successful intervention in this case has been noted as a positive step by law enforcement in preventing what could have been a traumatic ordeal for the child victim. Authorities have assured that the suspect will face the full force of the law.

Police officials have confirmed that an investigation into the matter is underway and that further details would be shared as the probe progresses. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and prompt reporting of suspicious activities involving children.

Child protection laws in Pakistan provide for strict penalties against those found guilty of committing or attempting to commit sexual offences against minors. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children across the country.
