Police finalise security plan for Eid in Peshawar, deploy over 5,500 personnel

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar police have finalised a comprehensive security and traffic management plan to maintain law and order and ensure the smooth flow of traffic across the provincial capital during Eidul Fitr.

According to a statement issued by the city police, more than 5,500 police personnel will be deployed for security and traffic duties throughout the city during the Eid festivities.

Multiple units to be deployed

The statement outlined that a wide range of police units will be performing duties as part of the Eid security arrangements. These include women police, the Ababeel Squad, city patrolling force, traffic police, local police, the rapid response unit, anti-terrorist squad, bomb disposal unit, and other special units.

The police said that surveillance operations are being conducted in densely populated markets, with monitoring also being carried out through drone cameras to bolster security coverage.

Traffic and security measures

"Special arrangements have been made by traffic police officers and personnel to keep traffic flowing smoothly in the city."

The statement further noted that security has been placed on high alert at the city's entry and exit points, sensitive locations, Eidgahs, mosques, markets, and other important places. The bomb disposal unit teams have also been engaged to ensure safety at key sites across the city.

The deployment of multiple specialised squads, including the anti-terrorist squad and the rapid response unit, reflects the heightened security posture adopted by the Peshawar police during the Eid period. The use of drone cameras for aerial surveillance in crowded market areas is part of the broader effort to prevent any untoward incidents during the festivities.

The extensive security plan covering thousands of personnel across various units underscores the scale of the operation being undertaken by the city police to ensure that residents can celebrate Eidul Fitr in a safe and secure environment.
