CM Murad sets April 2026 deadline for Shahrah-i-Bhutto Expressway completion

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday directed the local government (LG) department to ensure that the Shahrah-i-Bhutto Expressway is made fully operational by next month.

The directive was issued during the 51st public-private partnership (PPP) policy board meeting chaired by the chief minister, according to a statement issued by the CM House.

Expressway 88.2 per cent complete

During the meeting, the board reviewed progress on the Shahrah-i-Bhutto Expressway, a 39-kilometre high-speed corridor. The board was informed that the project was currently 88.2 per cent complete. The chief minister directed the LG department to ensure the expressway is fully operational by April 2026.

Solar-powered streetlights approved for elevated section

The PPP policy board also approved the installation and a 25-year maintenance plan for solar-powered streetlights along a 4.5-kilometre elevated section at Sammo Goth. The initiative is aimed at enhancing public security and operational safety along the expressway.

Kathore interchange and Sukkur-Rohri bridge

In addition to the expressway progress, the board approved the award of a contract for the feasibility study and detailed design of the Kathore interchange. The meeting was also informed about a new Sukkur-Rohri bridge over the Indus River, which is expected to benefit over 30,000 vehicles daily.

The developments reflect the Sindh government's continued push to advance major infrastructure projects across the province through its public-private partnership framework, with the Shahrah-i-Bhutto Expressway being one of the flagship initiatives currently nearing completion.
