PVARA releases sandbox guidelines and invites applications for asset-referenced token pilot

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) has published its sandbox guidelines and initiated the application process for the first phase of asset-referenced token (ART) issuance, according to an official statement.

PVARA's newly released guidelines outline the regulatory framework for entities interested in participating in the sandbox environment. The sandbox is designed to allow selected participants to test asset-referenced tokens under regulatory oversight before these products are introduced to the wider market.

The authority announced that applications for the initial phase are now open. Interested parties can submit their proposals for the issuance of ARTs, which are digital tokens backed by real-world assets. This move is aimed at fostering innovation in Pakistan’s virtual assets sector while ensuring consumer protection and regulatory compliance.

According to the official statement, the sandbox will enable PVARA to observe and assess the risks and benefits associated with ARTs in a controlled setting. The authority stated that the guidelines have been developed to provide clarity on the eligibility criteria, application process, and operational requirements for participants.

PVARA emphasized that the sandbox initiative is part of its broader efforts to develop a robust regulatory framework for virtual assets in Pakistan. The authority has encouraged stakeholders to review the published guidelines and submit their applications within the specified timeframe.

The launch of the sandbox and the opening of applications for ART issuance mark a significant step in the development of Pakistan’s virtual asset ecosystem. PVARA stated that it will continue to engage with industry participants and other stakeholders to ensure the safe and responsible growth of the sector.
