I am writing to share my experience as a young female student who recently participated in a Breast Cancer Awareness session held at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in October 2025. Students from multiple universities were invited, and I consider it a privilege to have been among those selected for this insightful and transformative visit.
The session was not only educational but eye-opening, as it challenged several misconceptions surrounding breast cancer. One of the most significant myths addressed was the widespread belief that breast cancer is solely a genetic disease. Medical professionals explained that while heredity can be a risk factor, the majority of cases arise due to lifestyle choices, hormonal changes, age, delayed diagnosis, and most critically - a lack of awareness.
Experts strongly emphasized the life-saving importance of early detection. We were trained on how to conduct regular self-breast examinations and informed about early warning signs, including unusual lumps, changes in breast shape or skin texture, and abnormal nipple discharge. A particularly striking takeaway was the reminder that breast cancer does not discriminate by age, making early awareness among young women essential rather than optional.
This Breast Cancer Awareness initiative reflects Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital’s unwavering commitment to public health education. The clarity, professionalism, and compassion with which the information was delivered reaffirm why the institution is held in such high regard nationwide. Programs like these do more than spread awareness - they empower individuals with knowledge that can save lives. I deeply appreciate and admire Shaukat Khanum’s *continued dedication to serving society with excellence and humanity.
