MULTAN: The Punjab government is moving forward with sewerage development projects valued at Rs25.8 billion in Multan, aiming to address the city's persistent drainage and sanitation challenges.
According to official documents, these initiatives are part of the Punjab Development Programme (PDP) 2025-26. The package comprises six major sewerage schemes, focusing on the rehabilitation of disposal stations, replacement of outdated sewerage pipelines, and the extension of sewerage services to areas that previously lacked such infrastructure.
The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) Multan is responsible for executing these projects. Under the plan, the augmentation and rehabilitation of disposal stations in Phase-II will be carried out at a cost of Rs4.4 billion, while Phase-III has been approved with an allocation of Rs4.5 billion.
Additionally, the replacement of aging sewerage infrastructure in Multan city under Phase-III is set to cost Rs3.7 billion. Phase-IV of the project has been allocated Rs4.5 billion to upgrade the city's old drainage network. Another significant component of the package includes the provision of sewerage services in previously unserved areas, further expanding the city's sanitation coverage.
The comprehensive approach of these projects is expected to significantly improve Multan's drainage and sanitation systems, addressing long-standing issues faced by residents. The initiatives are part of the broader PDP 2025-26 framework, which aims to enhance urban infrastructure across Punjab.
