Police repel armed attack on checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan; one constable injured

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Unidentified armed militants launched an attack on the Khutti police checkpoint in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district late Saturday night, according to police officials.

Police stated that the assailants targeted the checkpoint under the cover of darkness, using heavy weaponry. Personnel stationed at the post responded promptly, returning fire and compelling the attackers to withdraw from the scene.

During the exchange of gunfire, one police constable sustained injuries. The injured officer was immediately transported to a hospital for medical treatment, officials confirmed.

Following the incident, the militants managed to escape. A heavy contingent of police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel, led by SP City Division Murtaza Khan Bangash, arrived at the location and cordoned off the area. Authorities subsequently launched a search operation in the surrounding locality in an effort to locate the attackers.

Police officials emphasized that the swift response by security personnel prevented further escalation, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
