Rain and hail bring relief from heat in Lahore and parts of Punjab

LAHORE: Heavy clouds and widespread showers brought a noticeable drop in temperature across Lahore and several other cities in Punjab during the early hours of Thursday. Some localities in the provincial capital also experienced hail, adding to the pleasant change in weather.

According to data released by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) Lahore, rainfall was recorded in two distinct spells in Lahore. The first spell occurred from 4:45am to 5:38am, followed by another round of showers from 8:20am to 9:42am.

Multiple neighbourhoods in Lahore received rain, including Dharampura, Mughalpura, Garhi Shahu, Canal Road, Ferozepur Road, Ichhra, Model Town, Green Town, Kacha Jail Road, and Chungi Amar Sidhu. Other areas such as Kot Lakhpat, Nishter Colony, Jain Mandar, Chauburji, and parts of Multan Road also saw rainfall. The intensity of the showers varied across the city, with some areas experiencing heavier downpours than others.

The intermittent rainfall, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, provided much-needed relief from the rising temperatures that had been affecting residents during the holy month. The change in weather was welcomed by citizens, who had been contending with persistent heat in recent days.

Officials noted that the showers not only improved the overall atmosphere but also contributed to a significant drop in temperature, making conditions more comfortable for the public. The rainfall was part of a broader weather pattern affecting several cities in Punjab, with similar conditions reported in other regions as well.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have advised residents to remain cautious during periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms.
