Three debutants set to feature as Pakistan begin 2027 World Cup preparations with Bangladesh ODIs

DHAKA: Pakistan are set to introduce three new players in the opening match of their three-game One-day International (ODI) series against Bangladesh, marking the start of their preparations for the 2027 World Cup. The first ODI will take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.

Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, speaking on Tuesday, confirmed that Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat will open the batting, while Shamyl Hussain will play at number three, with all three making their ODI debuts. Afridi stated, “We just want to give opportunities to our youngsters, as they are also our future. We just need to ready our team for the World Cup, and that’s just an opportunity for the youngsters to go and show their skills.”

This series marks Afridi’s third assignment as captain. The decision to test new talent comes after Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the recent T20 World Cup. The team management has shifted its focus to building a competitive squad for next year’s 50-over tournament.
