CM Maryam launches free livestock programme to empower rural women, combat poverty

• Free livestock distribution begins in 13 districts for eligible divorced and widowed women under first phase

• CM says sustainable livelihood initiative will promote financial independence and strengthen rural household incomes

 LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the Free Livestock Programme to promote the economic empowerment of rural women, marking another step under her vision of sustainable rural development aimed at reducing poverty and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities across the province.

Acting on the chief minister's directives, the distribution of free livestock has begun in the first phase for eligible rural women across 13 districts of Punjab. The programme covers Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Taunsa, Bahawalnagar, Khanewal, Vehari, Lodhran, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Layyah, Kot Addu and Bahawalpur.

Under the initiative, divorced and widowed rural women up to the age of 55 years will be eligible to receive free livestock to help them establish sustainable sources of income and strengthen their household finances.

According to the eligibility criteria, applicants must have their marital status verified by the Punjab Social Protection Authority (PSPA). Women who have already received livestock under any government scheme during the past five years will not be eligible to apply again.

To facilitate applicants, Chief Minister Facilitation Desks have been established at nearby veterinary hospitals and animal health centres across the participating districts. In addition to on-site registration, applications can also be submitted online through the official portal: attrw.punjab.gov.pk.

CM Maryam Nawaz said bringing rural women into the economic mainstream was essential to effectively tackling poverty and ensuring inclusive development. She said the Punjab government was committed to making rural women financially independent by providing sustainable livestock support and financial assistance, enabling them to earn a dignified livelihood while improving the economic well-being of their families.

She said the initiative reflects the provincial government's resolve to expand economic opportunities for vulnerable women and strengthen rural communities through practical and sustainable welfare measures.
