Judicial commission orders Board of Revenue to submit original Gul Plaza land records

KARACHI: The Gul Plaza Judicial Commission on Tuesday instructed the Board of Revenue (BoR) to provide the complete and original documentation related to the land on which the Gul Plaza building was constructed.

The commission, led by Justice Agha Faisal of the Sindh High Court, also directed the municipal commissioner of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to submit relevant documents, including agreements pertaining to the lease deed.

According to the commission's directives, the senior member of the BoR is required to present the full and original records, which must include all revenue entries, mutation registers, allotments, transfers, notifications, maps, departmental notes, and any ancillary documents related to the property. The deadline for submission of these records is March 13.

The commission further stated that, based on the statement of Municipal Commissioner Sumera Hussain, it was essential for her to specifically address certain questions and to provide the underlying agreements for the lease deeds of 1936 and 1991, as well as the mayor's resolution from 1991. These documents are also to be submitted by March 13.

The commission emphasized the importance of timely compliance, warning both the Board of Revenue and the municipal commissioner that failure to submit the required records and documents by the specified date would result in consequences as per the law.

The directives were issued as part of the ongoing inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the construction of the Gul Plaza building. The commission is tasked with examining the legality and procedural aspects of the land's allocation and use.
