QUETTA: The Balochistan government has initiated a large-scale tree-plantation campaign, aiming to plant one million saplings throughout the province. The launch of the drive was officially announced on Monday at the Quetta Press Club by Forests Secretary Imran Gichki.
During the announcement, Mr Gichki detailed that 50,000 of the planned saplings will be planted in Quetta, the provincial capital. He expressed gratitude towards the media for their role in raising public awareness about the significance of trees in improving environmental conditions and combating air pollution.
Mr Gichki emphasized the importance of public participation in ensuring the success of the campaign. He stated that the forest department will work closely with local communities to achieve the plantation targets. "The forest department will collaborate with masses to ensure the campaign’s success," he said.
The initiative comes as part of ongoing efforts to address environmental challenges in Balochistan, where tree cover is limited and air quality concerns have been rising. The campaign is expected to contribute to a healthier environment and support broader efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change in the region.
The tree-plantation drive reflects the provincial government's commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection. Authorities have called on citizens to actively participate in the campaign and help foster a greener Balochistan.
