Sindh faces 'narcotics war' akin to China's Opium War, says AT
Vasand Thari has compared Sindh's drug crisis to China's Opium War, urging civil society to take immediate action against substance abuse.

KARACHI: Vasand Thari, a prominent social activist, has likened the current drug crisis in Sindh to the historical Opium War in China, calling for urgent action from civil society to address the growing issue of substance abuse in the province.
Speaking at a recent event, Thari stated that Sindh is experiencing a 'narcotics war' that mirrors the devastation caused by the Opium War in China. He emphasized the seriousness of the situation, highlighting the widespread impact of narcotics on communities across the province.
Thari urged members of civil society, including community leaders and organizations, to play a more active role in combating the spread of drugs. He stressed that collective efforts are needed to protect the youth and future generations from the dangers of substance abuse.
According to Thari, the proliferation of narcotics has become a significant threat to public health and social stability in Sindh. He called for increased awareness campaigns and preventive measures to curb the influence of drug networks operating in the region.
Thari's remarks come amid growing concerns about drug addiction and its consequences in Sindh. He warned that without immediate intervention, the province could face long-term challenges similar to those experienced by China during the Opium War era.
He concluded by appealing to all segments of society to unite in the fight against narcotics and support initiatives aimed at rehabilitation and prevention.
