University of Karachi shifts all morning classes online until end of Ramazan
The University of Karachi has announced that all morning classes will be held online from March 9, 2026, until the end of Ramazan, citing transportation challenges due to rising fuel prices.

KARACHI: The University of Karachi (KU) has announced that all morning classes will be conducted online starting Monday, March 9, 2026, and continuing until the end of Ramazan.
According to a statement issued by a KU spokesperson, this decision was made to accommodate students during Ramazan and to address transportation challenges arising from the recent increase in fuel prices. The spokesperson stated, “Keeping in view the convenience of its students during Ramazan and transportation restraints likely to be caused by the recent price hike in petroleum products, the University of Karachi has decided that all the morning classes from Monday, March 9, 2026, till end of the month of Ramazan will be conducted only online.”
The university had already shifted its evening classes to an online format at the start of Ramazan. With this latest move, both morning and evening classes will now be held virtually for the remainder of the holy month. The university administration cited the significant hike in fuel prices as a key factor influencing the decision, aiming to provide relief to students who may face difficulties commuting to campus.
The notification further emphasized the university’s commitment to facilitating students’ academic activities while considering their convenience and the current economic situation. The measure is expected to ease the burden on students who rely on public or private transportation, particularly during the fasting month when daily routines are often adjusted.
The university has not specified any changes to the academic calendar or examination schedules as a result of this transition. Students have been advised to attend their classes online as per the regular timetable until further notice.
This decision aligns with similar measures taken by educational institutions in the past during periods of fuel shortages or price hikes, as well as during Ramazan, to support students’ needs.
