RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has initiated efforts to install a Cryoablation treatment facility at Holy Family Hospital (HFH), aiming to provide advanced cancer care to patients in the Potohar region.
According to Dr Ijaz Butt, Medical Superintendent of HFH, the new facility is being brought to Pakistan from China. He stated that the Punjab chief minister had previously observed the advanced cancer treatment technology during visits to Xi Ji Tan and Hygea Medical Technologies in China.
Dr Butt explained that the first phase of introducing this technology took place at Mayo Hospital in Lahore. Following this, the government is now working to establish the same treatment at Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi and Nishtar Hospital in Multan.
Describing the procedure, Dr Butt said, “Cryoablation is a minimally invasive, image-guided procedure that uses extreme cold to destroy diseased tissue, such as tumours, by creating a localised ice ball.” He added that this method is commonly used for cancer treatment, particularly in the liver, kidney, lung, prostate, and breast, or for pain management. The procedure is noted for offering faster recovery and less pain compared to traditional surgical methods.
The introduction of this technology is expected to enhance cancer treatment options for patients in the region, providing access to modern medical procedures that were previously unavailable locally.
