Canadian PM Carney calls for Prince Andrew’s removal from royal succession

TOKYO: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has publicly stated that former prince Andrew should be removed from the British royal line of succession, citing what he described as Andrew’s “deplorable” behavior. Carney made these remarks during a press conference in Tokyo on Saturday, where he was visiting to hold talks with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is currently under investigation for alleged misconduct in public office. The probe follows revelations about his association with the late US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew was arrested and released in February on suspicion of having passed confidential information to Epstein during his tenure as a UK trade envoy from 2001 to 2011.

Speaking to reporters, Carney said, “There is a process in order to do it….but I certainly think his actions which are deplorable and have caused him to be stripped of his royal titles, certainly… necessitate his removal from the line of succession.”

The former prince was stripped of his royal titles last year due to his alleged connections with Epstein. Andrew has denied all allegations of wrongdoing.

The investigation into Andrew’s conduct continues, focusing on whether he passed confidential information to Epstein during his official role. The situation has drawn international attention, particularly following Carney’s comments and the ongoing scrutiny of Andrew’s past associations.
