VIP visit cleans Johi

ON Jan 5, while on my way to market, I was astonished to see the main roads cleaned, and all encroachments from the sides of the main road and markets removed. There were no heaps of garbage and entrails of animals and poultry in sight. The traffic was orderly and the area looked clean, and broken roads were repaired overnight. After a while, it transpired that the reason for this sudden ‘revolutionary change’ was the planned arrival of a judicial VIP in town.

Although during the VIP visit, streets across the town kept overflowing with sewage, the main roads and markets were at least clean, and the traffic was smooth the whole day. Such VIP visits on a more regular basis to remote towns, like Johi, may actually work in favour of the masses.
