Residents of Paharpur tehsil in Dera Ismail Khan were forced to evacuate their homes on Wednesday night after a breach occurred in the Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) at the Kachhi Kath Garh area. The incident resulted in water inundating nearby settlements, causing significant disruption and hardship for local communities.
Reports indicate that the canal embankment developed a breach in Kachhi Kath Garh, leading to a strong flow of water towards adjacent settlements, including New Chora and surrounding localities. The sudden influx of water flooded low-lying areas, submerging agricultural fields and cultivated land. Road connectivity between Kachhi Kath Garh and Surakhel was also affected, making it difficult for residents to travel and evacuate.
In response to the emergency, district authorities, irrigation officials, and rescue teams were mobilized to assist affected residents. Announcements were made from local mosques, urging people in vulnerable areas to evacuate and move to safer locations. Many families began relocating their belongings and seeking shelter away from the flooded zones.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed concern over the breach and its impact on the local population. He requested a report from Wapda and irrigation authorities regarding the incident and directed officials to take immediate action to address the situation.
Efforts by local authorities and emergency teams are ongoing to manage the aftermath of the breach and provide relief to those affected. The full extent of the damage to property, farmland, and infrastructure is yet to be determined, as officials continue to monitor the situation and coordinate response measures.
