Authorities in Hyderabad have demolished an encroachment located in front of the tajar, or ladies chamber, of the tomb of Mian Ghulam Nabi Kalhoro, a ruler of the Kalhoro dynasty. The action was carried out on Thursday by district administration officials, who were accompanied by representatives from the provincial culture department.
The operation was supervised by City Assistant Commissioner (AC) Syed Noor Hussain, who also heads the Heritage Protection Committee established under the directive of Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner Zainul Abiden Memon in December 2025. Sindhu Chandio, Assistant Director of the Hyderabad office of the provincial culture department, was also present during the proceedings.
The encroachment consisted of houses belonging to two residents in the Katchi Abadi area of Kalhoro Colony, situated in front of Central Prison Hyderabad. Notices had been served to the two encroachers prior to the demolition. Officials stated that the removal of the encroachment has opened the face of the tajar to public view for the first time in a considerable period.
Officials inspected the tajar following the demolition, marking the first such inspection in a long time. A similar wall around the tajar was previously demolished in 2018 at the request of the culture department, but was subsequently rebuilt by local residents. The recent action by the administration is intended to restore and protect the heritage site from further unauthorized construction.
The ground where the encroachment stood is technically part of the protected heritage site, according to officials involved in the operation. The administration has indicated that further steps may be taken to ensure the preservation of the tomb and its surroundings.
