Authorities Order Illegal Occupants to Vacate Kalhora Heritage Site in Hyderabad

Authorities in Hyderabad have issued a notice to individuals occupying a heritage site linked to the Kalhora dynasty, directing them to vacate the premises to allow for the removal of unauthorized structures.

Notice Issued to Occupants

Assistant Commissioner (AC) City Syed Noor Hussain has formally notified three individuals—identified as Mr Arif, Mr Naseer, and Mr Zameer—who are alleged to have encroached upon a historical property known as the ‘ladies chamber’ or ‘tajjar’. This site is associated with Kalhora ruler Mian Ghulam Nabi Kalhoro (1719-1753) and has been declared a ‘protected antiquity’.

The notice informs the occupants that they have annexed the heritage property to their adjacent residential plot. The property in question is located within the Katchi Abadis under the jurisdiction of the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC).

Encroachment and Heritage Protection

A wall and gate were constructed to incorporate the heritage site into neighboring residential units. The AC’s communication with the HMC confirmed that the plot bears city survey No. 2971. The authorities have stated that the illegally raised structure must be removed or demolished to restore the site.

The illegal occupants of a heritage site — a ‘ladies chamber’ belonging to the Kalhora dynasty — have been asked to vacate it so that the illegally raised structure could be removed / demolished.

The action is part of ongoing efforts to protect and preserve sites of historical significance in the city. Officials have emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of declared heritage properties and ensuring that encroachments are addressed in accordance with the law.

Next Steps

The notice serves as a formal warning to the occupants, and further action may be taken if the site is not vacated as directed. The authorities have not disclosed a specific timeline for the removal or demolition of the unauthorized structures.

Officials continue to monitor the situation and have reiterated their commitment to safeguarding Hyderabad’s cultural heritage.
