Arsenal edge Brighton to strengthen Premier League lead as City held by Forest

Arsenal took a significant step forward in the Premier League title race on Wednesday, securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion. Bukayo Saka’s early goal proved decisive, as Mikel Arteta’s side maintained their position at the top of the table.

Saka found the net in the ninth minute with a deflected effort, giving Arsenal a crucial advantage. The Gunners then delivered a determined defensive performance, recording their 14th clean sheet of the season. Saka later described the win as ‘ugly’, reflecting the gritty nature of Arsenal’s display.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya required medical attention on three separate occasions during the match. His repeated injuries led to suggestions that he may have been feigning in order to provide opportunities for tactical discussions between Arteta and his players. In the post-match press conference, Brighton coach Fabian Hurzeler accused Arsenal of time-wasting and faking injuries, and claimed that the Gunners were deliberately slowing down the game.

Meanwhile, Manchester City were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Nottingham Forest, a result that further strengthened Arsenal’s hold on the top spot. Nottingham Forest, who are battling relegation, managed to secure a valuable point against the defending champions.

With these results, Arsenal ended the night with their first league title since 2004 appearing increasingly within reach, as a significant swing in the standings favoured Arteta’s team. The outcome of both matches has intensified the competition at the top of the Premier League table.
