Woman arrested for throwing acid on man for refusing marriage proposal

LAHORE: Police have arrested a woman in Lahore’s Kahna Town for allegedly throwing acid on a man after he refused to marry her.

Officials said the suspect, identified as Robina Bibi, allegedly lured 30-year-old Sufyan to her residence under false pretenses before attacking him with acid. The assault left parts of his body and clothing severely burned.

Speaking on the incident, SP Model Town Shehrbano Naqvi said the accused and the victim were previously acquainted. However, tensions reportedly escalated after the man recently married another woman, angering the suspect.

Police tracked down and arrested the woman from Ghulam Hussain Colony in Kahna using modern investigative methods. A special team was constituted under the supervision of SP Shehrbano Naqvi to ensure her swift apprehension.

A case has been registered, and further investigations are underway.

In a separate case last year, a man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for attacking his sister with acid in Karachi’s Manzoor Colony.

An Additional Sessions Judge at the South/Gender-Based Violence Court convicted Muhammad Ramzan for the 2022 assault, during which he also stabbed his sister’s two sons when they tried to intervene. The court imposed a fine of Rs1 million and ordered him to pay Rs50,000 in compensation to his sister.

He was additionally handed two separate four-year prison terms for injuring his nephews, along with a compensation payment of Rs400,000.
