Pakistan Seeks Alternative Oil Supply Route from Saudi Arabia Amid Hormuz Closure

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has formally requested Saudi Arabia to provide an alternative oil supply route through Yanbu following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The request was made on Wednesday by Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik during a meeting with Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki.

The meeting took place in Islamabad, where both sides discussed matters of mutual interest and bilateral cooperation. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which followed a United States-Israel attack on Iran, has disrupted global energy markets. The majority of Pakistan’s energy supplies transit through this vital waterway.

During the meeting, Minister Malik informed the Saudi ambassador about the current situation and the implications of the strait’s closure for Pakistan’s fuel supply chain. He emphasized that the government is closely monitoring the evolving situation on a daily basis and is actively working to ensure the continuity of energy supplies.

The Saudi ambassador assured the minister of full support regarding Pakistan’s request for an alternative supply route. A statement issued by the petroleum division confirmed the ambassador’s assurance and highlighted the ongoing cooperation between the two countries.

The Pakistani government is seeking to maintain stability in its fuel supply chain amid uncertainty in global energy markets. Both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and addressing challenges arising from the current regional developments.
