Four years, no payment
A retired senior official from Jinnah Hospital reveals a four-year struggle to receive medical reimbursement. Despite approval, payment remains pending, highlighting issues of maladminis- tration.

I retired as a senior official from the Jinnah Hospital in Lahore in 2023. In November 2021, I was admitted to the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) twice; once for a surgery, and then to get some complications sorted out. I submitted a bill for medical reimbursement and it was sanctioned by the relevant department on Nov 29, 2022, after due process and authentication. The bill was approved for payment by the then medical superintendent of Jinnah Hospital on Dec 6, 2022. The payment, however, has still not been made.
I have been running from pillar to post for the last four years, but the processing of the bill, for reasons best known to the authorities, has yet to come to an end. I have submitted various applications and approached the relevant offices time and again, but all such efforts have been in a lost cause. The original bill is still lying with the finance department of the hospital. This is a clear-cut case of maladminis- tration on the part of the said hospital. Higher authorities should immediately intervene to somehow expedite the process.
