Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday expressed concern regarding the recent coordinated attack on Iran by the United States and Israel. Speaking in the Senate, Dar described the attack as "sudden" and noted that it occurred despite what he characterized as a "positive direction" in ongoing talks between Washington and Tehran.
During his address, Dar recalled that discussions between the US and Iran had been progressing successfully. He referenced Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's recent visit to Austria, where the prime minister met with the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). According to Dar, the IAEA chief was optimistic about the direction of the dialogue between the involved parties.
The foreign minister also mentioned his recent conversation with the foreign minister of Oman. Dar stated that the Omani official informed him that the last round of talks between the US and Iran had concluded on a positive note. "He told me that after the talks, the Omani foreign minister flew to Washington, where he met the vice president and told him that the dialogue was going in a positive direction," Dar said.
Dar's remarks in the Senate highlighted Pakistan's concern over the timing of the US-Israel action, especially given the reported progress in diplomatic efforts. He emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and peaceful engagement in the region.
Officials have not provided further details regarding the nature of the attack or the specific outcomes of the diplomatic talks. However, Dar's statements reflect Pakistan's position that diplomatic channels should be prioritized and that recent developments have raised apprehensions about regional stability.
