CERT Launches Probe into Cyberattacks Targeting TV Channels and Pak-Sat

The National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) has initiated a formal investigation following a series of coordinated cyberattacks that disrupted multiple Pakistani television channels, websites, and mobile applications on Sunday night.

The main target of the attack was the country's state-owned satellite, Pak-Sat. As a result, several television channels experienced transmission issues. However, officials confirmed that no major government or private websites were affected during the incident.

On Monday, Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima chaired a meeting of the National CERT in Islamabad to assess the situation. The meeting was attended by cybersecurity experts and relevant officials, who reviewed the preliminary findings and agreed to launch a comprehensive probe into the breaches.

Authorities stated that efforts are underway to determine the motive, origin, and technical nature of the cyber intrusions. CERT officials assured that a detailed report will be released upon completion of the investigation.

In response to the attacks, CERT issued an alert to relevant stakeholders, advising them to enhance their cybersecurity measures and remain vigilant against potential threats.

The investigation remains ongoing, with officials emphasizing the importance of identifying the source and intent behind the cyberattacks. Further updates are expected once the CERT completes its inquiry and releases its findings.
