Photo Share of Alleged Armed Protester at US Consulate Sparks Debate

Stand up comedian, content creator and the host of The Pakistan Experience on Monday shared a photo on his page described as a “new video angle” showing a man pulling out a pistol and firing multiple shots during protests outside the United States Consulate Karachi.

As per the post's caption, “New video angle on the protests at the US Consulate show this man who was with the protestors who pulled out a pistol and fired multiple shots. Either someone insane brought a gun to cause chaos, or this is an agent provocateur.”

The photo has circulated widely online, but the authenticity of the image and the identity of the armed individual could not be independently confirmed. It remains unclear whether the man acted alone, was part of the protest, or was an outside provocateur.

The demonstration took place a day after deadly clashes outside the consulate that left several people dead and dozens injured. Security forces reportedly used tear gas and live rounds to control crowds attempting to breach the compound, according to police officials.

The surrounding area, including Mai Kolachi and the coastal expressway, experienced heavy disruptions, with roads closed and law enforcement deployed in large numbers to maintain order.

The photograph and the claim of an armed protester sparked debate among social media users:

“Neither one person in the crowd seems to come from the working class or those who are of sane voice. How come attacking the US consulate or embassy can revert to what has already been done? The area which surrounds the US consulate is Mai Kolachi and through the expressway, the colonies it touches are a no-brainer. Who created this chaos, who chanted such things and now in the end who is paying the price? Where is this crowd when the budget is passed, when necessities are at stake?” wrote Maria Nisar.

“Khud ko defend krna ghalat nhi. Americans started firing first,” another user commented.

“My first thought was also that this gives perfect opportunity to cause unrest by infiltrating such protests,” Saad Mahmood wrote.

“And who traced US marine forces? If govt failed to defend people do it by itself,” another user wrote.

“Defend? Who started the protest? People did and Americans needed to defend themselves,” another remarked.

Authorities have not confirmed the identity of the man in the photo, nor whether any arrests have been made. Investigations into the protest violence and the fatalities reported outside the consulate are ongoing.

The circulation of the image on The Pakistan Experience page has intensified scrutiny over how the protest escalated into deadly confrontation and whether external actors may have contributed to the unrest.
