Thousands of mourners gathered at Numaish in Karachi on Sunday night to attend the funeral prayers for seven individuals who were among ten protesters killed during a demonstration near the US Consulate. The protest was held in response to the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Reports indicate that the bodies of three other deceased protesters were transported to their native towns for burial. Authorities implemented strict security measures, with police and Rangers deployed to prevent any potential disturbances during the funeral proceedings.
Mourners, many carrying red flags, filled both tracks of M.A. Jinnah Road as the coffins arrived at the venue. The crowd chanted slogans and called for justice for those who lost their lives. Religious scholars and community elders addressed the gathering, urging attendees to remain calm while emphasizing their commitment to continue a peaceful struggle for accountability.
The funeral prayers were led by Ayatollah Ghulam Abbasi Raisi. Prior to the prayers, religious figures including Allama Shahenshah Hussain Naqvi and Allama Shabbir Hassan Meesam addressed the mourners. The event was marked by emotional scenes as families and community members paid their respects to the deceased.
A condolence meeting is scheduled to be held at Nishtar Park, as announced by organizers. The incident has drawn significant attention, with calls from the community for a thorough investigation and justice for the victims.
