South Africa secured a five-wicket victory over Zimbabwe on Sunday, maintaining their unbeaten record ahead of the upcoming semi-final against New Zealand. The match took place in New Delhi, where Zimbabwe, led by captain Sikandar Raza, posted a total of 153-7.
Sikandar Raza delivered a standout performance for Zimbabwe, scoring 73 runs and later taking 3-29 with his off-spin bowling. Zimbabwe, who had previously surprised both Australia and co-hosts Sri Lanka in the group stage to reach the Super Eights, put up a spirited fight against South Africa.
During Zimbabwe's innings, Raza anchored the side with his 73, helping them reach a competitive total. In response, South Africa encountered early difficulties in their chase. Raza made an immediate impact with the ball, dismissing Quinton de Kock for a duck on the third ball of the innings. In the following over, Raza bowled South African captain Aiden Markram for four runs.
Ryan Rickelton, facing a challenging spell, was struck on the helmet by a bouncer from Brad Evans, requiring a five-minute pause for recovery. Rickelton then responded by hitting Evans for two consecutive sixes in the next over, but was eventually caught for 31.
Dewald Brevis played a crucial role for South Africa, scoring 42 off just 18 balls. He, along with David Miller, who contributed 22 runs, put together a partnership of 50 runs, stabilizing the innings after the early setbacks. Despite two more quick wickets falling, South Africa managed to reach their target, finishing on 154-5 in 17.5 overs.
With this win, South Africa remain unbeaten as they prepare to face New Zealand in the semi-final scheduled for Wednesday. Zimbabwe exit the tournament after a series of impressive performances, including victories over Australia and Sri Lanka in the earlier stages.
