Comedian sparks frenzy

A little-known stand-up comedian and social media influencer may not have been familiar to many, but he suddenly became the talk of the town after casually remarking, perhaps unknowingly and in jest, during his comedy show that if Karachi was unmanageable, “privatise it like PIA”. What was merely a passing quip on a comedy platform triggered an overreaction from the ruling party in Sindh. The response catapulted the comedian to sudden fame, not only in Karachi but across Pakistan. Ironically, he is an apolitical figure, and his comment should have been viewed in that light. Such an overreaction was least expected from a party in government. The overreaction only ended up turning the episode into a nationwide meme-fest. The most pointed one of them asked: “What if Punjab turns out to be the highest bidder?” Interesting.
