ISLAMABAD: A senior management delegation led by Tahir Zaman has met the newly elected president of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani, to brief him on recent overseas tours undertaken by the Pakistan national hockey team.
The meeting, held in Islamabad, reviewed Pakistan’s recent tours to Argentina, Australia and Bangladesh. Delegation members outlined team performances, logistical hurdles and what they described as instances of mismanagement during the visits.
Officials said the discussion offered a candid assessment of structural shortcomings within the setup and provided a “fresh perspective” on the future direction of Pakistan hockey.
According to sources, President Wani advised the management team to continue accompanying the national squad on its ongoing tour for the Cairo World Cup qualifier. However, the delegation requested permission to withdraw from the current tour to prepare a comprehensive report for the federation.
The proposed document will focus on improving tour planning, addressing governance issues and strengthening the professional development of players. President Wani accepted the request, allowing the team to prioritise drafting the report over travelling with the squad.
The report is expected to serve as a framework for future tours and broader institutional reforms within the PHF.
Pakistan hockey, once a dominant force globally, has faced administrative challenges and inconsistent results in recent years. Officials hope the review process will help establish a more professional, transparent and sustainable structure moving forward.
