KARACHI: Cold and dry weather is expected to persist in Karachi until January 30, the Pakistan Meteorological Department said on Wednesday.
In an early warning forecast, the department said nights would remain cold, with minimum temperatures likely to range between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius.
It added that the city may continue to feel the impact of north-easterly winds originating from Balochistan.
Elsewhere in the country, cold and dry conditions are expected to prevail in most areas over the next 12 hours, while hilly regions are likely to experience very cold weather, according to Radio Pakistan.
Fog may develop in patches at a few locations in north-eastern Punjab.
Temperatures recorded on Wednesday morning showed Islamabad and Peshawar at 5 degrees Celsius, Lahore at 10, Karachi at 12, Quetta at minus 5, Gilgit at minus 4, Murree at minus 1 and Muzaffarabad at 0 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, heavy snowfall has continued to disrupt life in Naran and Kaghan, where daily activities have been paralysed for the past five days due to blocked roads and power outages.
Snow accumulation in Naran and surrounding areas has reached up to seven feet, while Shogran, Kaghan and nearby upper valleys have received around five feet of snow, an intensity not seen in several years.
The prolonged electricity outages and communication disruptions have compounded difficulties for residents, with reports of fallen power lines and damaged poles hampering restoration efforts.
Authorities have closed the Kaghan Road beyond Mahandri to all traffic due to the risk of heavy snowfall and landslides, while roads leading to Shogran have also been temporarily shut to prevent accidents.
