PTA issues major update on major cut in mobile phone taxes

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has issued a clarification rejecting reports circulating on social media that claim a significant reduction in mobile phone taxes along with new instructions for importers and consumers.

In an official statement, the authority said it has not issued any notification or directive regarding a cut in mobile phone taxes or changes to existing rules governing mobile phone imports.

The PTA said the notification being widely shared online is false, has no official backing, and appears to be intended to mislead consumers and mobile phone importers.

The regulator further clarified that no instructions have been issued to either importers or the general public concerning mobile taxation, adding that reports suggesting any form of tax relief on mobile phones are completely baseless.

The authority urged citizens to refrain from sharing unverified information and advised the public to rely solely on updates published on the PTA’s official website and its verified social media platforms for accurate information.
