Pak-China Agriculture Cooperation Centre launched in Kasur

ISLAMABAD: China Machinery Engineering Corporation on Friday inaugurated the Pak-China Innovation Agriculture Cooperation Centre at Kasuri Farms in Kasur, marking a new phase in bilateral cooperation aimed at advancing modern, technology-driven agriculture in Pakistan.

The centre has been established to promote agricultural research, technology transfer and innovation, with a focus on smart farming, biotechnology, seed development, mechanisation and climate-resilient agricultural practices. Officials said the initiative would support sustainable food systems while contributing to rural development and productivity growth.

According to CMEC, the facility will also prioritise capacity building through farmer training programmes, applied research initiatives and structured knowledge-sharing platforms, enabling farmers to adopt modern techniques and improve yields.

Speaking to Gwadar Pro, Alan Xi of the CMEC Group said the centre would encourage joint research, technology incubation and collaboration between students, scientists and entrepreneurs. He added that the initiative aims to strengthen food security and economic resilience by ensuring innovation reaches farms and delivers practical outcomes.

The CMEC Group has earlier launched chilli and sesame contract farming projects in Pakistan, designed to enhance crop productivity, improve seed quality and introduce modern farming practices. These projects provide farmers with technical support, quality inputs and assured market access.

Officials said the experience gained from these contract farming initiatives would complement the work of the newly launched centre by offering field-based insights and scalable agribusiness models, further strengthening Pakistan-China cooperation in the agriculture sector.
