Qasim Ali Khan leads Alfalah Amateur Golf Championship after round two

LAHORE: Qasim Ali Khan of Lahore Gymkhana continued his impressive run at the Alfalah Amateur Golf Championship, maintaining the lead after the completion of the second round and putting himself in a strong position to claim the title when the tournament concludes on Sunday.

Displaying consistency, composure and excellent shot-making, Qasim produced another steady all-round performance to post a gross aggregate score of 140, firmly establishing himself as the frontrunner.

His confident handling of pressure situations and command over the course have drawn praise from both tournament officials and golfing experts, who believe his performance reflects the qualities of a seasoned national-level player.

Trailing him in second position is young Saad Habib from Multan, who has emerged as one of the standout performers of the championship. Saad sits on an aggregate of 144, four strokes behind the leader, and remains firmly in contention heading into the decisive final round.

Several other amateurs also remained in the hunt after strong showings. Zayd Omer carded a gross aggregate of 148, while Muhammad Mansha and national golfer Hussain Hamid of Royal Palm also finished the round tied on 148. Experienced campaigners Salman Jehangir and Mohammad Shoaib, both known for their past successes on the amateur circuit, stayed within striking distance and are expected to push hard in the final round.

In the seniors’ category, Taimur Shabbir of Lahore Gymkhana delivered a standout performance, firing a brilliant round of 67 to take the outright lead. Despite competing in the senior division, Shabbir showcased championship-level skills and control. Ahmed Zafar Hayat of Gymkhana holds second position, while Mohsen Zafar is placed third.

With several contenders eyeing top honours across categories, an exciting finish is anticipated when the championship concludes on Sunday, promising a thrilling finale for players and spectators alike.
