APHC urges UN, global rights bodies to secure release of 3,000 detained Kashmiris

SRINAGAR: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) on Tuesday raised alarm over the situation of more than 3,000 Kashmiris held in Indian jails, calling on the United Nations and international human rights organizations to intervene for their immediate release.

APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas said the detainees include political leaders, activists, and ordinary Kashmiris imprisoned solely for opposing Indian policies in the occupied territory. The group alleged that prisoners are frequently denied basic necessities, including adequate medical care, hygienic food, and humane treatment.

The APHC accused Indian authorities of misusing investigative agencies such as the National Investigation Agency (NIA), State Investigation Agency (SIA), and Enforcement Directorate (ED) to target Kashmiris and suppress dissent.

Minhas specifically appealed for the release of prominent Hurriyat leaders, including APHC Chairman Masarrat Alam Butt, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Syed Aasiya Andrabi, Fehmeeda Sofi, Naheeda Nasreen, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Ayaz Akbar, Raja Merajuddin Kalwal, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Shahid-ul-Islam, Molvi Bashir Ahmed, Bilal Ahmed Siddiqi, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, and Advocate Mia Abdul Qayoom.

He said the steadfast resistance of Kashmiris in pursuit of self-determination will endure, framing their struggle as a defining chapter in the territory’s history, while condemning India’s measures as systematic oppression.

The APHC urged the UN Secretary-General, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and other global human rights bodies to take immediate notice and actively work toward securing the release of all detained Kashmiris.
