Education minister breaks silence on winter vacation extension

LAHORE: Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has confirmed that all schools and colleges across the province will reopen on January 12. This clarification comes after a false notification circulated on social media, claiming that winter vacations in Punjab had been extended until January 17.

The education minister rejected the claims of an extended holiday, urging the public to “avoid fake news.” Earlier this week, he had already denied any such extension.

The Punjab government had originally announced winter holidays for both public and private institutions from December 22 to January 10, with schools and colleges set to reopen on January 12.

However, a fraudulent notification, which appeared to come from Punjab’s School Education Department, went viral online, causing confusion among parents and students. The false message suggested that the vacations had been extended due to “severe weather conditions,” and schools would now reopen on January 19.
