Punjab govt blocks promotion of 11,000 teachers to head positions

LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced that it will not promote 11,000 teachers currently working in public schools to the position of regular school heads, according to official sources.

Reports suggest that all permanent headmaster and headmistress roles have been blocked, leaving numerous teachers, including those who passed merit-based exams, still waiting for appointments to leadership positions.

The School Education Department explained that teachers will not be granted Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) powers, essential for managing school funds, until existing rules and regulations are amended.

A proposal to allow teachers to be appointed as regular heads will soon be presented to the provincial cabinet for approval.

Officials explained that this decision aims to ensure better adherence to administrative policies and the proper management of financial powers in government schools.
