KARACHI: A speeding dumper truck collided with a motorcycle near Indus Chowrangi in Korangi, killing the rider and injuring two others. Despite the city’s modern e-ticketing system, accidents involving heavy vehicles continue to occur.
According to police, traffic officers had signaled for the dumper to stop, but the driver ignored the signal and proceeded at high speed, crashing into the motorcycle. Following the incident, an angry crowd set the dumper on fire. The driver fled the scene, and police are working to apprehend him.
The body of the deceased, identified as 40-year-old Muhammad Iqrar, was taken to Jinnah Hospital for legal formalities. Police and fire brigade teams quickly responded to the scene. Firefighters extinguished the flames, but the dumper’s front section was completely destroyed.
Traffic enforcement officials confirmed the driver was speeding and failed to obey the officers’ signals. The dumper was filled with garbage and operated under the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board. Dumper owners have demanded legal action against those responsible for setting the vehicle ablaze.
Local residents and eyewitnesses expressed frustration, claiming that dumper drivers regularly engage in reckless driving while traffic police often ignore violations by heavy vehicles, instead focusing on minor infractions by ordinary motorists.
