Newlywed woman accidentally shot dead while filming TikTok video in Karachi

KARACHI: A 22-year-old newlywed woman was tragically killed in Karachi while recording a TikTok video with her husband in Gulistan-e-Jauhar’s Pehlwan Goth area, police said on Sunday.

The victim, identified as Farzana, was fatally injured on Friday when a bullet struck her head during the shoot at her home near Pakistan Store. She was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre but succumbed to her injuries the following day.

According to Gulistan-e-Jauhar SHO Inspector Kashif Rabbani, police have arrested her husband, Ghulam Mustafa, and seized the unlicensed 9mm pistol used in the incident. The suspect, a house painter by profession, told investigators that he had purchased the weapon from Kashmore.

Police said Mustafa and Farzana were recently married in September, with their formal wedding ceremony planned for later. Originally from Kandhkot, Farzana had come to Karachi with her father and sister, while her mother had returned home two days earlier to collect her pension.

Investigators stated that during the TikTok shoot, Farzana — known for making short videos — was filming alongside her husband, who was holding the pistol. She reportedly asked if the weapon was loaded, and Mustafa replied that it was not. As part of the video, Farzana placed the barrel to her temple and told her husband to pull the trigger.

When he did, the gun fired a live round, killing her instantly. Police confirmed that the weapon had a bullet chambered, and further investigation into the case is underway.
