Peshawar boy dies after accidental shooting while filming TikTok video

PESHAWAR: A 10-year-old student died in Peshawar after he accidentally shot himself while recording a TikTok video at home, according to police and his family.

The incident took place in the Tehkal area, where the child, identified as Aweis, was filming a video in front of a mirror inside his house. His family said he had placed a pistol near the mirror while trying to make content when the weapon went off, killing him at the scene.

Aweis was a fifth-grade student. Family members said the incident happened while he was alone in the room where he usually studied. At the time, the other children in the house had gone to school.

His father, Saifur Rehman, described the incident as a devastating loss for the family and spoke about the difficulties parents face in limiting children’s use of mobile phones. "We always try our best to keep our children away from mobile phones, but school homework, WhatsApp groups, and online assignments make it difficult. On that fateful day, Aweis was making a video. He placed the pistol close to the mirror, not knowing how to handle it properly. It was a small mistake that cost him his life," he said.

SP Cantt Abdullah Ihsan said police had investigated the case. He said the family told police that the boy died while attempting to make a TikTok video.

Police confirm family’s account

Police confirmed that an inquiry was carried out after the shooting. According to SP Cantt Abdullah Ihsan, the family’s account was that the child was trying to record a TikTok video when the firearm discharged.

The case has drawn attention to the risks associated with children’s access to both mobile devices and firearms inside homes. In this case, the family’s statement and the police investigation both pointed to an accidental shooting during the making of a social media video.

The boy’s death occurred inside the family home in Tehkal, where he had been recording in front of a mirror. His father said the child did not know how to handle the pistol, and that the mistake proved fatal.

The incident left the family grieving the loss of a young child who, according to relatives, had been engaged in making a video when the weapon suddenly fired.
