ISLAMABAD: In a major step toward deepening bilateral defence cooperation, Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, undertook a landmark official visit to Romania, where he held wide-ranging talks with Lieutenant General Leonard-Gabriel Baraboi, Chief of the Romanian Air Force Staff, according to the military’s media on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the visit underscored Pakistan’s growing engagement with European defence partners and its focus on advancing collaboration in modern air power and aerospace technology.

Upon his arrival at the Romanian Air Force Headquarters, Air Chief Marshal Sidhu was presented with a Guard of Honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Romanian Air Force. The two Air Chiefs later held in-depth discussions aimed at expanding operational cooperation through joint air exercises, professional exchange programmes, and the training of air and ground crew, the statement said.

Both sides also exchanged views on regional security dynamics and reaffirmed their shared resolve to strengthen cooperation for global and regional stability. Lieutenant General Baraboi lauded the Pakistan Air Force’s professionalism, citing its recent operational successes and notable advancements in indigenization achieved under the visionary leadership of Air Chief Marshal Sidhu, the ISPR reported.

During the talks, the two dignitaries agreed to establish robust institutional mechanisms to ensure sustained collaboration between the two air forces.
